WHAT IS PULMONARY ARTERY PRESSURE MONITORING?

Pulmonary artery (PA) pressure monitoring helps you and your doctor keep a closer eye on the progress of your heart failure treatment. By monitoring your PA pressure, your doctor may be able to detect worsening heart failure before you feel symptoms, such as shortness of breath or weight gain.

Your doctor can respond by changing your medications, which may reduce your chance of ending up in the hospital. In fact, clinical studies show that patients whose clinicians used a PA sensor to manage heart failure actually had fewer hospitalizations and improved quality of life.1

HOW PA PRESSURE MONITORING WORKS

A PA pressure monitoring system uses a sensor to measure your pulmonary artery pressure and heart rate. The sensor is no larger than the size of a dime, with two thin loops at each end. The sensor is implanted in your pulmonary artery (the blood vessel that moves blood from your heart to your lungs). The system comes with an electronics unit that you use to take daily measurements and sends them wirelessly to your doctor.
