Working in the industry for over 20 years, Beji started at Abbott since October of 2021 and has been playing to win ever since. With a passion for bringing new technologies to market, he’s very excited about innovations like the AVEIR™ VR Leadless Pacemaker (LP). He took a moment to answer some of our questions about working for Abbott.
Q. How would you describe your role as a Leadless Clinical Specialist (LCS)?
A. I wear different hats. From case coverage to education to scheduling and physician training, I have my hands in several things related to AVEIR VR LP. If it’s about AVEIR, I’m probably in the middle of it somewhere!
Q. What does a typical day look like for you?
A. As the Clinical Lead, my typical day starts with connecting with the US Cardiac Rhythm Management team regarding AVEIR needs and resources. This includes LCS case support or field education needs. I also help the Global Education team on AVEIR certification for the broader US field team. Otherwise, you’ll find me supporting US cases or training new physicians on implantation while working closely with my director on future strategies regarding devices and the team.
Q. What drew you to become an LCS at Abbott?
A. What brought me here was both the “family” attitude with a strong culture for success. I learned about this from the Abbott employees I worked with previously. They all had consistent values – they were a family and they loved to win. This drew me in.
Q. What do you love best about your job?
A. I’ve always had a passion for bringing new technologies to market and seeing them flourish. I love learning new technology, training physicians on therapy, offering therapy to patients and seeing how it impacts their lives – it makes this job very exciting. And I have the best team on the planet who are my friends. I love working with them to innovate for the future and bring Abbott’s life-changing technology to the wider patient population.
Q. What was the most impactful AVEIR VR LP case you’ve worked on?
A. This technology impacts every patient who is implanted with it. Specifically, I remember a young firefighter who passed out while actively fighting a fire. Having the implant allowed him to get back to his day-to-day work without any restrictions or limitations he would have had with a conventional pacing system. This is something that truly changed his life.
Q. What do you like to do when you’re not working?
A. I love playing sports, trying new restaurants, gaming and seeking new adventures. I’m also a professional drummer who has toured in the past with artists like Scott Stapp, Jamie Grace and the Neverclaim.
