Coronary Artery Disease

Treating CAD to Restore Your Health

Abbott: Leadership in Coronary Artery Disease Treatments

Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) develops when plaque builds up in the vessels and blocks blood flow and oxygen supply to the heart. A common method to open blocked coronary arteries is Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI), also called revascularization. Blood flow is restored using a variety of medical devices. Many people with CAD require a stent to keep the coronary arteries open once blood flow has been restored—the Abbott XIENCE™ Stent is the leading heart stent globally. There are a variety of stent types, including bare metal stents and drug-eluting stents. Abbott provides guide wires and catheters to help doctors position the stent in the vessel with great precision. Doctors encounter challenging cases—tortuous (twisting) coronary vessels, complex lesions, chronic total obstructions, or complicating conditions like diabetes, however it has been shown that Abbott stents are safe even in complex procedures.2

Ultreon™ 1.0 Software for coronary imaging is a new technology that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to provide more insights to physicians for optimized PCI. It provides a three-dimensional view of the coronary artery and the location of the blockage. The software was named an "Innovation Awards Nominee" by the prestigious Consumer Electronics Show (CES) for outstanding design and engineering.4
