HeartMate LVAD Surgical Training

Building and Running a VAD Program from Indication to Bedside

This course lays the foundations of a VAD program, from selecting the right patient to implanting the HeartMate 3™ LVAD and managing the patient. The importance of a team approach will be discussed, together with the principles of structuring and organizing a VAD program.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Structure their own programs and carry out implants
  • Select suitable LVAD candidates
  • Handle the apical cuff and apply the right suturing technique
  • Manage the patient in the pre-, per- and post-operative phases
  • Organize a VAD program and manage referrals
  • Handle and manage clinical complications in outpatients

Early Risk Stratification and Strategy: Setting Standards for Future

Perioperative management for LVAD implantation

This comprehensive course focuses on the various aspects around the anesthesiologic management of patients for LVAD therapy. From the perioperative optimization phase, to risk stratification and from the surgical aspects to the management of LVAD patients in a non-cardiac setting.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Manage different viewpoints in the preoperative optimization phase of end-stage heart failure patients
  • Anticipate patient management related to surgical aspects and challenges in LVAD procedures
  • Manage patients in the pre, peri-and post-operative phase
     

The program offers an optional visit to the Surgical ICU, LVAD-ICU, HTX-ICU, VAD Ambulance and operating room at the end of the program.

Implementing the CardioMEMS HF System Into Daily Practice

In this course, we will address how to faciliate efficient and effective remote management of your patients, even before other symptoms appear. Hear how to select the right patient, implant the CardioMEMS™ PA Sensor and learn how to manage patients’ pulmonary pressures. Each of these important aspects will be covered together with the relevance and importance of hemodynamic data regarding heart failure patient management.

After completing the course, participants will be able to:

  • Structure your own program to integrate CardioMEMS HF System in your management practice
  • Select suitable CardioMEMS HF System candidates
  • Understand the steps involved in implanting a CardioMEMS PA sensor
  • Manage the patient during the evaluation, post-implant phase, optimization phase and maintenance phase
  • Interpret and utilize hemodynamic data to the benefit of patient management with the CardioMEMS HF System
